“Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to deepen the disagreement in views among Western countries regarding the war in Ukraine by choosing Budapest, the capital of Hungary, as the meeting place with his American counterpart Donald Trump.” Political analyst Elkhan Shahinoglu told Medianews.az this.

He stated that Hungary does not support the European Union's sanctions against Russia: “Moreover, Brussels is concerned about the absence of European leaders at the Budapest meeting.
Putin is not interested in peace. He demands Donbas. Russia has not been able to fully occupy Donbas for 4 years. Kyiv controls part of Donbas and will not give that part to Russia. Kyiv agrees to a ceasefire under the current conditions. At the same time, it is difficult for Ukraine to recover lost territories. Putin is trying to buy time. He wants Kyiv and Brussels to accept the occupation of Ukrainian territory. Kyiv and Brussels do not agree to this.”
E. Shahinoglu noted that Donald Trump's goal is to achieve a ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine war: “He is not thinking about resolving the conflict because this is a complicated issue. If a ceasefire is not achieved, the White House will continue selling military equipment to Ukraine through Europe.”
