The intense rains and floodwaters observed in recent days in Shamakhi have caused serious damage on the Gonaqkend automobile road. Landslides have been activated at two different points on the road, resulting in the complete destruction of the asphalt surface.
As a result of the landslide, a part of the road has collapsed and become unusable. Now drivers are forced to use alternative and dangerous routes for travel. Villagers and drivers report that the situation is worsening day by day.
Medianews.az reports that this was mentioned in the video material of Baku TV.
"We don't know whether to spend our earnings on our families or on car spare parts. Due to the poor condition of the roads, we lose both time and face financial losses. Even getting our patients to the hospital on time has become difficult," local residents complained.
Regarding the issue, it was reported by the 19th Road Maintenance Directorate of the Azerbaijan State Agency of Automobile Roads (ASAAR) that specialists have inspected the area and a defect report has been drawn up.
Currently, funds are awaited for the complete restoration of the road. Nevertheless, Agency personnel monitor the area and repair and restoration work is carried out regularly. It was also emphasized by the agency that the road is currently in a usable condition.
