3 points for "Sabah," and a miracle for "Qarabağ"

There are 4 rounds left until the end of the 2025-2026 season in the top tier (Premier League) of Azerbaijan's national football championship.

Medianews.az reports that "Sabah," leading with 72 points, needs just 3 more points for their first championship. "Qarabağ," with 59 points and one game less played, can only hope for a miracle to win the gold medals.

Also in the top five are the teams "Turan Tovuz" (56 points), "Zirə" (46 points), and "Neftçi" (44 points). "Neftçi" has one match in reserve.

"Araz-Naxçıvan" has 40, "Sumqayıt" 38, "Şamaxı" 35, "İmişli" 29, "Kəpəz" 21, "Qəbələ" 20, and "Karvan-Yevlax" 14 points.

According to UEFA's preliminary scheme for club tournaments of the 2026-2027 season, the Azerbaijani champion will start the Champions League from the first qualifying round, the national cup winner will start the Europa League from the first qualifying round, the bronze medalist will start the Conference League from the first round, and the silver medalist from the second round.

The final of the Azerbaijan Cup for the 2025-2026 season will be contested by "Sabah" and "Zirə." If "Sabah," close to winning the championship, also becomes the cup winner, the silver medalist will represent the country in the Europa League. In this case, the team finishing fourth in the championship will compete in the Conference League along with the bronze medalist.

The team finishing in the last place will leave the Premier League, while the team in the penultimate position will face the runner-up of the lower league to try to remain in the Premier League.

If two or more teams have equal points, these indicators will be considered in order: number of wins; goal difference; goals scored; results of matches played between the teams themselves; goal difference in matches played between the teams (away goals are not counted); least official warnings (yellow and red cards). If these indicators are also equal, the winner will be determined by a draw.

Since 1992, "Qarabağ" has been champion 12 times, "Neftçi" 9 times, "Kəpəz" 3 times, "Şəmkir," "Bakı," and "İnter" (current "Şamaxı") 2 times each, and "Turan" (Tovuz) and "Xəzər Lənkəran" once each.
