Posture bending, snoring during sleep, and waking up tired in the mornings can often stem from a common cause - improper alignment of the teeth and jaw.
Russian specialist, dentist Viktoriya Karatayeva stated this in an interview with "Gazeta.ru".
According to the doctor, malocclusion (incorrect bite), which causes muscle imbalance due to changes in the position of the jaw, is divided into various types such as crossbite, deep bite, open bite, mesial, and distal.
The specialist emphasized that structural disorders of the jaw bone also negatively affect the breathing process. When the palate and upper jaw narrow, the airways become constricted, forcing the person to breathe through the mouth. As a result, the likelihood of sleep apnea and snoring increases, and the brain does not receive enough oxygen during the night. Because of this, the person feels irritable, sleepy, and weak throughout the day.
Constant mouth breathing causes dryness in the oral cavity. This can lead to inflammation of the mucous membrane and an increased risk of cavities. To prevent these complications, restoring the bite is considered necessary.
V. Karatayeva added that in some patients suffering from migraines and chronic headaches, the main problem is precisely malocclusion and dysfunction of the temporomandibular joints.
Diagnostic evaluation requires an orthodontic examination. If necessary, MRI, computed tomography, or X-ray imaging is performed. The treatment method varies depending on the patient's age and severity of the pathology: special plates and jaw expanders are used in children, while aligner systems and braces are applied in adults.
According to the doctor, thanks to modern orthodontic technologies, it is possible to correct bite defects at any age with the help of sapphire, ceramic, or metal braces./oxu.az
