In the USA, a person named David Phillips took advantage of a confectionery company's campaign to collect a large volume of airline miles and consequently traveled the world for free.
Miles are bonus points given by airline companies to passengers, which are later used for free flights and other travel services.
According to Medianews.az, in 1999, while shopping at a market, Phillips noticed the campaign and determined that 100 flight miles were given for every 25 cents spent on pudding.
He took advantage of this opportunity and purchased approximately 12,150 puddings, spending $3,140 for them.
Later, he sent the barcodes of the products he purchased to the company in collaboration with a charity organization. As a result, he was awarded 1.25 million flight miles. This amount allowed him to fly repeatedly between Europe and the USA.
The company also awarded Phillips a “lifetime Gold status” for his successful participation. This status granted him priority flights, discounts, and additional benefits.
Additionally, he obtained a tax exemption for the donated products, and after the overall expenses, this “campaign adventure” cost him very little financially.
