Add a pinch when washing clothes: Even the oldest socks become as white as snow.

The discoloration or yellowing of white clothes over time is a common problem for everyone. Expensive stain removers and chemical bleaches sometimes damage the fabric and do not produce the desired result.

Milli.Az reports that salt is not only a food seasoning but also a powerful natural cleaner. Adding salt to the water when washing clothes serves several functions:

Breaks down stains: Salt crystals penetrate between fibers, softening embedded dirt and yellowish stains.

Preserves colors: Whitens whites and prevents colored clothes from fading by "locking" the color into the fabric.

Softens water: Eliminates the roughness caused by hard water on clothes.

This method is very easy to apply:

In the washing machine: Before starting the wash cycle, add one tablespoon of salt to the detergent compartment or directly into the machine's drum.

When washing by hand: If your socks are very dirty, soak them first in a bowl of lukewarm water with a generous amount of salt poured in, and let them sit for 30 minutes. Then wash as usual.

Especially the stubborn darkening that forms on the heel parts of white cotton socks can be easily cleaned with this method. The report notes that regular use of salt extends the life of clothes and keeps them bright as on the first day.

For a stronger effect, you can combine salt with a little white vinegar. This duo acts both as a natural softener and prevents the formation of scale inside the machine.
