A new government has started to operate in Moldova.
According to Medianews.az, the formation of the cabinet was completed with the appointment decree of President Maia Sandu. In the government headed by Prime Minister Alexandru Muntyanu, there are five deputy prime ministers (three of whom are also ministers) and 11 ministers.
The government is formed by the political force that holds more than half of the mandates in the parliament. In the new parliament elected on September 28, the Movement and Solidarity Party, affiliated with the president, holds 55 of 101 mandates. On October 24, Maia Sandu nominated Alexandru Muntyanu for the position of prime minister; on October 31, the parliament approved the composition of the government and endorsed its program.
The Movement and Solidarity Party has been the ruling party since 2021. The leader of the organization, Igor Grosu, is the speaker of the parliament.
Since February 16, 2023, Dorin Recean was the prime minister.
Maia Sandu was elected president in the nationwide elections of 2020 and 2024.
