Mirza Ibrahimov had an illegitimate daughter - PHOTOS

She was the illegitimate daughter of the People's Writer, academician, and public figure Mirza Ibrahimov, who served as the Minister of Education of the Azerbaijan SSR from 1942 to 1947, headed the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Azerbaijan SSR from 1954 to 1958, and led the Azerbaijan Writers' Union from 1948-1954, 1965–1976, and 1981-1986. This was stated to Medianews.az by Doctor of Philosophy, writer, playwright, and honored art worker Firuz Mustafa.

According to F.Mustafa, the name of M. Ibrahimov’s illegitimate daughter was Zamira: "Mirza Ibrahimov was born in 1911. Zamira Mirzovna Ibrahimova was born on March 5, 1938, in Leningrad, Russia. After graduating from Leningrad State University in 1960, she voluntarily went to Siberia. Her subsequent fate was closely connected with Siberia. Ms. Zamira worked for many years as a special correspondent in Siberia for the famous USSR magazines ‘Ogonyok’ and the newspaper ‘Literaturnaya Gazeta.’ She mainly wrote about the activities of scientists living in Siberia, especially in Novosibirsk. Zamira Ibrahimova's signature has been familiar to me since then. In the 1970s, I often saw her signature on the pages of ‘Ogonyok’ and ‘Literaturnaya Gazeta.’

Ms. Zamira believed that journalism promotes the development of science. Her deep observation and reasoning ability, analytical thinking, and rich language were clearly felt in her writings.

Zamira Ibrahimova was also a fine writer and talented playwright. She did not like to talk about herself and her family. But even from the brief, ‘stingy’ interviews published in the media, it is known that she married in Siberia and has a son and a daughter. Her son-in-law is a director.

To be honest, what caught my attention was not only her writings but also her name, surname, and “patronymic” (father’s name): Zamira Mirzovna Ibrahimova.

I had heard from older writer colleagues that this lady was the daughter of our great writer, academician Mirza Ibrahimov. Mirza teacher had pursued postgraduate studies in Leningrad in 1937. Later, in one document, it was indicated that the writer admitted in a ‘confession letter’ to the then republic leader Mir Jafar Baghirov that he had an illegitimate daughter.

Another writer’s memoir noted that in the 1950s, while attending a congress of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR (Mirza Ibrahimov was elected several times intermittently as a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR from 1937 to 1991), while staying in the same hotel in Moscow, Samad Vurgun, who had deep respect for his friend Mirza Ibrahimov, stated that there was no need to hide the “secret” about Mirza’s daughter and advised him to meet Zamira without hesitation.

Zamira Mirzovna Ibrahimova almost never spoke about her parents in her writings and interviews. However, she noted several times somewhat half-jokingly and half-seriously that the day of her birth was not very "fortunate." As we know, that day (March 5) is the day when dictator Stalin died.

Ms. Zamira was also a native poet. However, she “kept her poems secret.” In one of her last poems, she wrote:

We are autumn leaves, yes, we now,
The wind tears us off from the branches.
Oh old leaves, it’s hard for us,
Where is the trace of those past days?

Zamira Ibrahimova passed away on April 5, 2023, at the age of 85. She was considered the conscience of Russian journalism.

Those who have spoken about our People’s Writer Mirza Ibrahimov, who died at the age of 82 on December 17, 1993, often evaluate him as the conscience of our literature. May God have mercy on both of them!”
