Turkish singer Mabel Matiz has been brought to court on charges that the lyrics of the song "Perperişan" contain indecent expressions.
According to Milli.Az, the artist, who faces a prison sentence of between 6 months and 3 years, had her case examined at the Istanbul 54th First Instance Criminal Court.
According to the indictment, the lyrics of the song contain expressions that indirectly carry sexual meaning and pose a risk to children as it was broadcast without age restriction.
Mabel Matiz defended herself by stating that the song was inspired by folk literature and does not carry sexual meaning. When the judge asked if the song was written for men, she replied, "Everyone can listen to my songs."
The court decided to obtain an expert opinion from the relevant institution to determine whether the song is indecent or not. The next hearing was scheduled for March 27, 2026.
