What is happening at the "Koroğlu" station? — Official statement

In an appeal received on our website, it was reported that access to the "Koroğlu" metro station was restricted this morning. To clarify the essence of the issue and verify the information, we contacted Baku Metro JSC.

According to Medianews.az, the organization's press secretary Bakhtiyar Mammadov told Demokrat.az that information about the situation in the metro has been shared since yesterday:

“This was also communicated to the 'WhatsApp' group. Today, despite it being a working day, a schedule corresponding to Saturday principles was implemented. The main reason for this is to consider that passenger flow will be relatively sparse and to conduct investigation and necessary measures regarding the technical incident that occurred the previous day more efficiently. Actually, this situation was forecasted in advance. Therefore, appropriate instructions were given to all stations.” 

Bakhtiyar Mammadov stated that excessive accumulation of passengers on station platforms can create a dangerous situation. For this reason, passenger flow at entry and transfer gates is allowed inside in stages. This does not mean a complete closure of the metro, but rather a regulation process carried out for safety purposes. It is expected that congestion will increase again in the evening hours, and the metro management is constantly monitoring this situation.

“For this purpose, the regulation process started directly at the entry and transfer gates. The goal is to prevent excessive load on the platforms. Since such cases can cause undesirable and dangerous consequences. Today, passenger entry and exit to the metros were ensured. Congestion is expected to increase at some stations in the evening hours, and therefore regulation measures continue. Entries are not completely closed; passenger movement is carried out in a regulated manner to prevent congestion on the platforms.”

That is, the staged entry of passengers inside the "Koroğlu" metro and other stations is to prevent congestion and danger on the platforms.

It should be recalled that yesterday, temporary restrictions on passenger entry were applied at all stations of the Baku Metro. The reason for this was a malfunction in supplying high voltage to the contact rail in the "Ulduz-Narimanov" section at around 12:10 yesterday.
