After a two-year criminal investigation against Begonya Gomes, the wife of Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, she has been formally charged with corruption.

She is accused in Spain of four criminal acts (influence peddling, corruption in business, embezzlement of funds, misuse of funds).
Gomes denies the charges.
The court dropped the charge of abuse of power due to insufficient evidence. The judge gave the parties five days to submit petitions regarding the start of oral hearings or to prepare defense statements.
It should be noted that the case was opened based on a complaint from the "Manos Limpias" ("Clean Hands") organization, which has been dealing with the exposure of corruption cases since 2024. After the decision made on April 13, the case was referred to the jury court.
The investigation focuses on Gomes’s activities at Madrid’s university ("Complutense University of Madrid") and her relations with business representatives within the framework of projects promoted by this educational institution and professional cooperation.
