In the context of widespread mass protests in Iran, security measures have been tightened in several cities of South Azerbaijan. According to reports, additional police and military units have been deployed to the cities of Tabriz, Ardabil, and Zanjan.
Medianews.az, citing BAKU.WS, reports that the Association for the Defense of Azerbaijani Political Prisoners in Iran has released this information. It has been stated that a noticeable increase in the number of security and military forces has been observed in the aforementioned cities.
Additionally, Iran's Tasnim and Mehr news agencies have denied Western media reports claiming that protesters have taken control of the Malekshahi district and the city of Abdanan in the west of the Islamic Republic. This information has been posted on the websites of these news agencies.
"After several tense hours in Malekshahi, the situation has completely normalized thanks to the presence of security forces in the district," reports Tasnim.
According to Mehr, a peaceful rally in Abdanan took place under police supervision. After the rally ended and people began to disperse, a group of 250-300 people broke away from the crowd and started acts of vandalism. The agency notes that thanks to the work of security forces, order has been restored in Abdanan and the situation is under control.
It should be recalled that at the end of December, protests erupted in Iran against the devaluation of the local currency. The protests spread to more than 60 cities in 25 provinces of the country. The largest protests were recorded in Tehran, and the most violent clashes took place in the west and southwest (the cities of Malekshahi, Kermanshah, and Lordegan).
