Google has introduced an artificial intelligence-supported search module (AI Mode) used in the USA and Europe. This system shows the information the user is looking for directly in the search results, eliminating the need to visit websites. This feature poses serious problems for news sites.
According to Medianews.az, Digital Content Next (DCN) reports that referral traffic for some media outlets has dropped by up to 95%.
Overall, the traffic of the 10 largest technology news sites in the USA has fallen from 112 million to 50 million.
News sites accuse Google of "unfair competition" and emphasize that summaries prepared by artificial intelligence seriously affect their revenues.
Google denies the claims and states that high-quality clicks have increased. At the same time, users can switch to classic search by adding "-AI" to eliminate artificial intelligence results or by using the Web tab.
The European Commission has already begun investigating Google's unfair use of websites in artificial intelligence summaries.
