The number of detainees in protests against the strict economic austerity measures proposed by the authorities in France has reached 327.
According to "Report," the "BFMTV" television channel reported this information citing the country's Ministry of the Interior (MoI).
The MoI stated that at least 327 arrests have been recorded across the country since morning," the report says.
The channel emphasized that 199 of them were detained in the capital.
It should be noted that over 700 various actions are expected across the country in total, with 100,000 people expected to participate. Among the protesters, former participants of the "yellow vests" movement are already visible. Against this background, 80,000 law enforcement officers have been mobilized to maintain order. In July, then French Prime Minister François Bayrou presented a draft law on the 2026 budget. The authorities planned to save 43.8 billion euros instead of the previously planned 40 billion euros in several budget items. According to the government's plan, pensions and social payments will not be indexed, only the Defense Ministry’s budget will be increased, with an additional 3.5 billion euros allocated to it due to the "deterioration of the security situation in the world." Bayrou also stated that in order to reduce the budget deficit, "French people need to work more." He proposed declaring two public holidays as working days. The announced measures caused strong dissatisfaction among the French.
