Survey in Armenia: Do respondents believe in peace? What do they say about the Zangezur corridor?

The "Gallup" international organization's Armenia representation conducted a survey between August 25-30 among 1101 people.

According to Medianews.az, 55.1 percent of respondents said they do not believe the Washington agreements will bring lasting peace to the region.

The percentage of respondents who were optimistic about the peace process was 38.6 percent.

Recall that on August 8, the President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia signed a joint declaration in Washington in the presence of the US President, committing to the inviolability of borders, the inadmissibility of the use of force to gain territory, and the establishment of neighborly relations. The foreign ministers of the two countries initialed a draft agreement on peace and the establishment of interstate relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

In Washington, the creation of a corridor passing through Armenia that connects the main part of Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic was also agreed upon. This project is set to be implemented under the patronage of the USA.

According to the official report released on September 5 by Gallup's Armenia representation, based on the August 25-30 survey, 42.1 percent of respondents had a positive attitude towards the Washington declaration, while 47.6 percent expressed a negative attitude.

Regarding the idea of creating a corridor passing through Armenia (the Zangezur corridor), 35.5 percent of survey participants gave a positive opinion, and 58.9 percent were opposed.
