After the killing of Nemesio Oseguera, the leader of the "Jalisco New Generation" drug cartel in Mexico, nicknamed "El Mencho," a power struggle began within the organization.
Medianews.az reports, citing foreign media, that one of the main candidates for the cartel's new leadership is 29-year-old Abraham Jesus Ambris Cano, nicknamed "El Yogurt."
It is reported that he has led armed groups operating in the states of Michoacán, Jalisco, and Colima. Ambris Cano, who is said to be the commander of an armed group called "Los Indestructibles" ("The Invincibles"), is emphasized to have played an important role in controlling drug routes. Foreign media also claim that he led "El Mencho's" personal death squad.
According to information, in 2025, during an operation carried out by the Mexican Naval Forces in Michoacán, an armed clash occurred with the group he led. As a result of the incident, 12 cartel members were killed, several soldiers were injured, and some were detained. It is reported that "El Yogurt" managed to escape during the operation.
Since February 2026, after "El Mencho's" death, incidents of violence have increased in the country. Although official institutions have not released statements regarding the new leader of the cartel, security experts indicate that the possibility of fragmentation and more severe confrontations within the organization has increased.
