Is the world policeman returning? - EXPLANATION

Commenting on HAMAS killing those it considers traitors in Gaza, US President Donald Trump said that if HAMAS does not stop killing people in Gaza, we will have no choice but to go and kill them as well.

Commenting on the issue to Medianews.az, political analyst Khagani Jafarli said that the world’s policeman has begun to demonstrate that it can return once again: “After the collapse of the Soviet Union, starting from the era of George Bush (senior), the US began to abandon its role as the world’s policeman. This process continued during Trump’s first presidential term and also during Biden’s administration. In fact, in 2018 Trump declared that the US would not be the world policeman and that it was unfair for this burden to fall entirely on the US.”

As a result of these mistakes, countries like Russia, Iran, and China turned into threats to the weak. As a result of the wrong policy that started with George Bush, groups of sick people appeared who believe they have the right to kill people based on sectarian differences and generally different religious views, who carry this out and consider themselves the army and controllers of God on earth. However, if the US had continued the world policeman mission that began with Franklin Roosevelt, Russia, Iran, and China could not have become threat sources for small countries, and those who consider themselves the army and controllers of God could not have turned into regional dangers.”

According to K. Jafarli, just as every society needs police (gendarmerie) to ensure order, the world needs a world policeman to ensure peace and stability: “Just as societies cannot live without police, states cannot live peacefully side by side without a world policeman.”

The political analyst noted that the US has not yet restored the world policeman mission: “However, Donald Trump’s somewhat tougher rhetoric against Russia, China, Iran, and HAMAS has been enough for political leaders to begin to behave not as neighborhood shepherds but as heads of state. It is clearly seen that humankind has not matured to a level where it can live in harmony without the fear of police. States also cannot live peacefully alongside each other without a world policeman. It is bitter, but this is the reality.”
