"Forget democracy. It is not for us" – The person acting with presidential powers

"The people of Burkina Faso must forget about democracy. The truth must be told – democracy is not for us." Medianews.az reports that these words were said by Ibrahim Traore, the interim president of Burkina Faso, in an interview with the country's state television.

Ibrahim Traore came to power in 2022 as a result of a coup d'état. That year, after overthrowing the military junta and taking the presidential post, Ibrahim Traore banned all political parties in the country.

The new government initially promised that elections would be held in 2024, but later the period during which Ibrahim Traore exercises presidential powers was extended until 2029.

Born in 1988, Ibrahim Traore is a military officer. Before coming to power, Captain Ibrahim Traore was the commander of a special forces unit in the army.
