A general who fled from Ukraine to Russia 12 years ago has been killed.

12 years ago, Major General Vladimir Lyapkin, who escaped from Ukraine to Russia, died. Medianews.az reports that the news was announced by Oleg Tsarev, who was once a deputy of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada and is currently known as a propagandist for Russia.

Major General Vladimir Lyapkin worked as the head of the operational documentation department of the Ukrainian Security Service in the 2010s.

In 2014, after Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych was removed from office by a parliamentary decision, and after Petro Poroshenko was elected president in a snap election, Vladimir Lyapkin fled to Russia.

During his time working at the Ukrainian Security Service, Lyapkin supervised wiretapping, external surveillance, and intelligence gathering activities. He was promoted to the rank of major general in 2013 and actively participated in the dispersal of protests against Yanukovych that same year. A criminal case was filed against him in Ukraine.

After Russia started a total war against Ukraine in 2022, Lyapkin was appointed deputy head of the "security service" established in the occupied Kherson region.

According to Oleg Tsarev, Vladimir Lyapkin died on March 17, 2026.

The independent online publication "Mediazona" has also confirmed the fact of the death of 59-year-old Lyapkin.

It is also reported that Colonel Eduard Malov from the Moscow region was killed along with Lyapkin.

Both individuals graduated from the Tashkent Higher Combined Arms Command School in 1989.

Where and under what circumstances General Lyapkin and Colonel Eduard Malov died has not been disclosed.
