As we reported, hantavirus has been detected on the MV Hondius cruise ship sailing under the Dutch flag.
Medianews.az reports that the ship departed from Argentina on April 1 and is being held in quarantine near Cabo Verde.
There are 88 passengers from 23 countries and 59 crew members on the ship.
The Spanish authorities have stated that medical assistance will be provided and evacuation of the patients is possible. It is expected that the ship will reach the Canary Islands in approximately 3 days. However, the regional government has protested this decision and expressed concerns about safety risks.
According to the company's statement, the condition of two people is serious and urgent medical assistance is required.
Ruhi Çenet, a well-known Turkish YouTuber reportedly on the ship, said in his statement regarding the incident that the initial deaths were attributed to natural causes, but later an infectious disease was detected.
The World Health Organization (WHO) announced that contact tracing related to the incident is ongoing. In total, the virus has been confirmed in 7 passengers on the ship, and 3 people have died.
