Cardiologist Yekaterina Paukova listed the products that should be included in the menu to strengthen the cardiovascular system.
Medianews.az reports that according to her, fiber helps to reduce the level of blood cholesterol. Paukova notes that fiber is mostly found in legumes such as chickpeas, lentils, mung beans, fruits like pear, kiwi, apple, and vegetables like Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, beetroot, eggplant, pumpkin, spinach.
The doctor emphasized the importance of foods rich in potassium and magnesium for the normal functioning of the heart.
Sources of potassium: leafy greens, dried fruits (raisins, apricots), potatoes, avocado, banana, soy and almond milk.
Sources of magnesium: peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, milk, brown rice, buckwheat and quinoa.
Paukova also stated that products rich in polyphenols and antioxidants strengthen blood vessels and prevent cholesterol deposits. These substances are found in blackcurrant, blueberry, blackberry, sour cherry, dark chocolate containing more than 70% cocoa, cold-pressed olive oil, and red onion.
