Currently, in our Republic, the permanent settlement of the population is rapidly increasing, especially in areas not fully provided with the sewage network around Baku.
According to information provided to Trend by SİMDNX, in the residential areas of the mentioned territories, cases of direct discharge of wastewater into the environment by groups of the population, including into water and water management facilities, are encountered.
According to information from SİMDNX, population groups without access to the centralized wastewater discharge system must use alternative and safe methods for wastewater management and comply with the requirements of the existing legislation.
In areas without a centralized sewage network, wastewater management must be carried out in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Water Supply and Wastewater" and the requirements of paragraph 5 of the "Rules for cleaning, temporary storage, regular transportation, and disposal of household waste in accordance with sanitation rules, hygiene and ecological standards of cities and other residential areas," approved by the Decision No. 74 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated April 21, 2005.
Thus, to collect wastewater generated in residential areas not connected to the sewage system, a sewage pit must be prepared. Its aboveground part must be provided with a cover and grating, its walls and bottom must be impermeable to water, and its depth must not exceed 3 meters.
These pits should be located at a distance of 20 to 100 meters, as far as possible from residential buildings, kindergartens and schools, children’s playgrounds, and population rest areas. The pit must be cleaned at least once every six months, depending on the filling level.
Taking this opportunity, we inform you that if the population group does not comply with the specified requirements, physical persons are fined from 600 to 1000 manats in accordance with the relevant article of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Proper management of wastewater is not only the protection of the environment but also of great importance for the overall health of society, protection of water bodies, and prevention of negative impacts on water bioresources. For this reason, in areas not connected to the centralized sewage system, the requirements of the legislation must be observed, and safe and environmentally harmless methods must be applied to protect water and water management facilities from pollution.
