The temperature in this country has reached a historic peak - 128-year-old record

British Columbia, Canada, is under the influence of a heatwave. On Monday in Vancouver, the temperature reached 23.9 degrees Celsius, surpassing the 22.2-degree record that had not been broken since 1898.

Medianews.az reports that daily temperature records were broken in 19 areas of the province, including Pemberton (31.5°C) and Litton (31.9°C).

Meteorologists say the hot weather is related to a high-pressure air mass dominating the region, and according to forecasts, the weather will cool down somewhat by midweek but the heatwave will return near the weekend.

The hot weather is putting strain not only on thermometers but also on the electrical system. Due to widespread use of fans and air conditioners, "B.C. Hydro" announced that electricity demand reached approximately 7600 megawatts, which is the highest figure recorded for the month of May so far.

The weather conditions have also increased the risk of fires. Campfires have been banned on the southern coasts.//Redaktor.az
