Strong earthquakes that occurred in the first half of this year

During the night of June 25 in Venezuela - in the capital Caracas and La Guaira state, after underground tremors above 7 magnitude (7.1, 7.2, and 7.5), the death toll has exceeded 1000 people. Search and rescue operations continue in the disaster area. More than 46,000 people are considered missing, so the number of earthquake victims is expected to increase significantly.

Medianews.az reports that the Venezuela earthquake is actually not the strongest earthquake recorded worldwide in the first half of 2026, but it is the most terrible earthquake in terms of the number of victims.

On February 22 this year, an earthquake of 7.1 magnitude occurred in Malaysia (off the coast of Sabah), with no recorded human deaths.

On March 22, an earthquake of 7.5 magnitude occurred in the Vava'u islands of Tonga. No deaths were recorded.

On April 1, an earthquake of 7.4 magnitude occurred in the North Maluku province of Indonesia, with 1 person killed.

On April 20, a 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck the Sanriku coast of Japan, with no deaths.

On June 7, an earthquake of 7.8 magnitude struck the southern coasts of the Philippines, killing more than 80 people.

On April 3 this year, an earthquake also occurred in the Badakhshan province of Afghanistan. Although the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.8, due to the vulnerability of houses in mountainous villages, 12 people died and many buildings collapsed.
