Why do holiday bonfires become a danger? – Experts explain the reasons

The Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) of the Republic of Azerbaijan calls on citizens to strictly adhere to fire safety rules during the holidays.

"During the lighting of bonfires, gross violations occur such as improper selection of the volume and height of the firewood mass, placing the bonfire dangerously close to buildings and structures, as well as the use of gasoline and other flammable, explosive liquids. As a result, fire and explosion incidents causing serious damage to people's lives and health, property, and the environment are recorded," the statement said.

Medianews.az reports that despite so many calls, the continued occurrence of unfortunate incidents is primarily associated with irresponsibility, low awareness of safety rules, and in some cases, improper risk assessment.

Experts emphasize that for the safe observance of holiday traditions, bonfires should only be lit in open and safe areas, flammable liquids should not be used, and children should not be left unsupervised around bonfires. Observance of these rules plays an important role in preventing possible tragedies.
