Will there be no spring season in Azerbaijan? - Get ready, the weather is changing sharply

Although there is only one month left until the end of the spring season, its characteristic warmth and stability are still not felt. It is even expected that the weather will suddenly and sharply warm up in May.

Medianews.az reports that Irada Hasanova, the chairperson of the "Sky and Eco" Public Union for Social and Economic Development and an ecologist, speaking to Globalinfo.az, said that the first two months of spring were remembered by unstable, cool, and rainy weather conditions in Baku and surrounding areas:

"The mild warmth and sunny days traditionally observed in spring are late this year. Meteorologically, transitional periods between seasons, especially spring months, are distinguished by variability. The currently observed prevalence of cool and humid air masses is mainly due to cold air flows entering from the north and west directions. These processes are sometimes perceived as a 'delay' of spring. However, with the arrival of May, the situation begins to change. The increase in solar radiation and the warming of soil and water surfaces cause a rise in temperature in the lower layers of the atmosphere. This creates the conditions for more stable and warm weather to form."

The ecologist stated that a noticeable temperature rise in a short period during May is possible:

"This is especially related to warm and dry air masses coming from the south and southeast. In such cases, the temperature can rise by 10-15 degrees over several days. This means a sudden 'sharp warming.' However, this process is not stable. That is, even if warm days are observed during several days in May, a cool and rainy weather wave may follow. This is due to the variable nature of the spring season."

In recent years, due to climate change, weather events have been observed to become more unstable and extreme in nature. In this context, delays in spring, sudden warming and cooling, and intense rainfall often occur. The possibility of sudden warming in May also appears real due to the influence of these global changes.

Considering all these factors, a sudden and sharp warming in May is entirely possible. However, this warming will not be continuous and stable; that is, the classic, balanced spring weather may still be delayed for a certain period. For this reason, I consider that the best approach is to be prepared for both warm and cool days in the coming weeks and to regularly monitor weather forecasts."
