Honored Artist in Azerbaijan has passed away

Honored artist, singer Raziyya Shirinova has passed away.

Medianews.az reports, citing Bakiyaxti.az, that the singer died at the age of 86.

Raziyya Shirinova was born in 1940. She was a member of the "Lale" girls ensemble, and from 1964 to 1970 was a soloist at the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic. In 1980, R. Shirinova was accepted as a soloist at the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater, where she worked until 2005. During her years at the theater, she performed roles such as Asli in "Asli and Kerem," Shahsanem in "Ashig Garib," Arebzangi in "Shah Ismayil," Tutu and cousin aunt in "The Bride’s Rock," and Majnun’s mother in "Leyli and Majnun," among others.

On November 10, 2005, she was awarded the "Personal Pension of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan" for her great services to the cultural life of the Azerbaijan Republic. On September 16, 2006, she was honored with the title of "Honored Artist" for her services in the development of Azerbaijani culture.
