The 12 billion potential of the liberated territories – The Deputy EXPLAINED

During the Azerbaijani President's visit to Jabrayil and Zangilan, along with new foundation laying ceremonies, keys to apartments were also handed over to the displaced persons who had been forced to leave their ancestral lands for many years as a result of Armenia's 27-year occupation.

Economist MP Vuqar Bayramov told Medianews.az that as a result of intensive restoration and reconstruction works carried out under the leadership of the Azerbaijani President, the East Zangazur region is turning into a transport hub: “Works on the Azerbaijani part of the Zangazur corridor are nearing completion. The 140.6 km Horadiz–Aghbend railway line is expected to be commissioned next year. The 124 km Ahmadbeyli-Horadiz-Mincivan-Aghbend highway is also nearing completion. Considering the planning of works that will pass through Armenian territory for the corridor, the Zangazur corridor is expected to be put into operation in 2028. This will not only expand the regional capabilities of the Middle Corridor but also further strengthen Azerbaijan's geopolitical position.”

According to V. Bayramov, East Zangazur is also one of the regions with great tourism, industrial and agricultural potential: “The Azerbaijani President's visits to our territories liberated from occupation over the five years following the Victory, and the infrastructure construction carried out based precisely on his instructions and directives during these visits, as well as the foundation laying ceremonies serving both resettlement and creation of new jobs, unequivocally indicate that Karabakh and East Zangazur are entering a new stage of development. At the same time, this means that East Zangazur will become one of the main drivers of development in the Azerbaijani economy in the near future.”

V. Bayramov stated that according to preliminary assessments, our territories liberated from occupation have the potential to create new value amounting to approximately 10% of the Azerbaijani economy: “This means that after the restoration and reconstruction process, Karabakh and East Zangazur will be able to contribute to the formation of over 12 billion manats in new value and to the reintegration of the region into the Azerbaijani economy.”
