Foreign ministers of the European Union (EU) countries will discuss sending military ships to the Strait of Hormuz. For this purpose, the mandate of the "Aspides" operation (a military naval mission established to ensure the safety of navigation in the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf - ed.) may be changed.
Medianews.az, referring to Oxu.Az, reports that the head of European diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, said at the meeting of EU foreign ministers:
"We will discuss with member states whether it is possible to change the mandate of this mission to contribute to keeping the Strait of Hormuz open for navigation."
Kallas added that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz is dangerous for the EU due to the decrease in fertilizer supply, and this could lead to a product deficit in Europe next year.
