What do the people of the Year of the Dog expect from 2026?

The year 2026 is the year of the horse according to the Eastern calendar. Medianews.az asked Azerbaijani celebrities born in the year of the horse the question: "What is your greatest wish from the year 2026?"

Born in 1954, Honored journalist, professor Qulu Məhərrəmli stated that he has no special personal wishes: "I wish the health of my dear, close ones. I have a desire to complete the unfinished writings. There are some incomplete textbooks, I am working on them and trying to finish them."

In a broader perspective, I wish for peace and prosperity in our country. I want people’s lives and social conditions to improve. First of all, I want them to be peaceful internally. Reconstruction work in the regions freed from occupation should accelerate. Many compatriots are eager to return there; I hope they can return to their homelands soon. I wish for peace and tranquility in the world."

Born 72 years ago in the year of the horse – 1954, Serdar Cəlaloğlu, chairman of the Azerbaijan Democratic Party first emphasized that he does not believe in astrological explanations of years and views the new year only as a change in the calendar: "I think that the global crisis will deepen in 2026, and the situation in Azerbaijan will be critical as well. From this standpoint, I don’t expect anything positive from the coming year in general. The year will be tough."

On a personal level, one of my biggest wishes is to have the opportunity to at least publish some of the books I have written. I have written a multi-volume scientific explanation of the Quran, and if I find a sponsor, I will publish it. I have written three volumes related to theology, politics, and the metaphysics of history. They have been ready for 5-6 years and I would like to publish them. I also wrote a two-volume book on metaphysics, which is a very original work; I wish to have it published."

Asad Cahangir, chairman of the Literary Translation and Literary Relations Center of the Azerbaijan Writers' Union, noted that 2026 is not an ordinary year of the horse, but a crazy or fiery horse year recurring every 60 years: "I myself was born in the fiery horse year – 1966. The upcoming year is my year. I will turn 60, and I have jubilee expectations. I want to celebrate the jubilee, publish my books, and be published abroad. As the chairman of the Literary Translation and Literary Relations Center, I have projects left from last year, and I am trying to carry them out."

Considering military events possible in the year of the horse, Asad Cahangir said, "May God help our people!"
