55-year-old Devrim Güngör Turan, who lives in the Çanakkale region of Turkey, has regained his health thanks to a kidney donation from his mother.
Medianews.az reports that he has been suffering from kidney failure for 20 years.
In the past year, he has undergone dialysis three times a week.
Upon applying to the hospital for a kidney transplant, Turan’s mother, Semiha Sema Seçkin, decided to become the donor. After examinations, the kidney transplant surgery was successfully performed. It is reported that the patient’s indicators are currently within the normal range.
The center’s director, Prof. Dr. Cabir Alan, stated that the patient’s quality of life was significantly low due to dialysis, and despite the risks, his mother did not agree to see her son suffer. He also noted that organ donation from deceased donors is rare in the country, and thousands of patients are waiting for kidney transplants. He called on citizens to become donors.
Mother Semiha Sema Seçkin said her goal was to see her son healthy as soon as possible and noted that organ donation gives life to people. Devrim Güngör Turan, who regained his health, thanked the doctors and his mother, stating that he feels as if he has returned to life.
