An official of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) has passed away.
Medianews.az, citing Oxu.Az, reports that Yusif Shukurlu, director of ANAS's Sheki Regional Scientific Center, died today at Istanbul Memorial Hospital. He had been taken to Turkey for treatment some time ago.
Y. Shukurlu was born in 1948 in the Bash Shabalid village of the Sheki district. He studied at the Faculty of Physics at Baku State University. Since 2007, he had been a member of the Azerbaijan Writers' Union. A candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, Y. Shukurlu had served as director of ANAS's Sheki Regional Scientific Center since 2014.
He was the author of numerous scientific articles, books, and monographs, as well as patents and inventions. In 2025, he was awarded the "Progress" medal by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
