Good news for those who have allergies: Let's recognize dangerous foods

Food allergy is considered one of the widespread conditions worldwide, with approximately 10% of the population showing sensitivity to various foods. These reactions are sometimes observed with mild symptoms, but in some cases, they can cause severe conditions that pose a threat to life.

Medianews.az, referring to Foodinfo.az, reports that allergy arises as a result of the immune system recognizing certain substances as foreign and harmful, triggering a strong defense reaction in the body.

According to experts, during a food allergy, increased histamine levels manifest with symptoms such as itching, rashes, shortness of breath, runny nose, and eye irritation. In more severe cases, drops in blood pressure, asthma attacks, and even the risk of suffocation may occur. Particularly, a condition known as Quincke's edema develops rapidly and poses a life-threatening situation, requiring urgent medical intervention.

Doctors have also identified the five foods that most commonly cause allergies. Dairy products are considered widespread allergens, especially in children, with sensitivity to milk proteins. Peanuts are recognized as one of the most dangerous allergens worldwide, and hereditary predisposition further increases this risk. Eggs, especially the egg white, often cause allergic reactions in children; however, in many cases, this problem resolves as they grow older.

Additionally, gluten found in wheat causes allergies in some people, and since it is used in most daily foods, it can be difficult to avoid. Fish is also considered a strong allergen, and usually, individuals with this allergy are advised to avoid all fish products. Doctors emphasize that people with allergies should carefully select their foods, read product labels, and prefer alternative safe options.
