The nuclear agreement between the US and Russia is expiring - Trump is silent

If no changes occur at the last moment, the world’s last treaty limiting the deployment of nuclear weapons will expire.

APA reports that this was stated by The Times of Israel.

The term of New START, the last nuclear agreement remaining after decades of agreements between Washington and Moscow since the Cold War era, expires on Thursday, thus lifting restrictions for the three major nuclear powers.

The expiration of the treaty coincides with a time when US President Donald Trump has been canceling international agreements that restrict the United States under the slogan “America First.” However, it is noted that the problem with New START might be more about passivity than ideology.

Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed in September to extend the New START agreement for one year.

Later, in response to a journalist's question, Trump said that the extension “sounds like a good idea to me,” but since then, no serious statements have been made on the matter.
