Interesting details of the U.S.-China meeting continue to emerge throughout the day.
The meetings held in Beijing on May 14-15 were quite memorable.
Considering that this was Donald Trump's first official visit to China since 2017 and his first major meeting with Xi Jinping. Although official statements emphasized "stable relations," "cooperation," and "friendship," a completely different scene unfolded behind the scenes. According to reports from the New York Post and Daily Beast, serious chaos, security scandals, and protocol crises occurred during the meetings.
Before the bilateral talks began, a large group of Chinese journalists suddenly entered the hall. During the confusion, a female staff member from the White House advance team fell to the floor and was trampled underfoot. The U.S. side reacted strongly, and shouting erupted in the room. The phrase "Get the f*** out of here!" was heard from a hot microphone during the incident. Although the female staff member was not seriously injured, she was bruised and shaken.
During the event at the Blue Temple, Chinese security forces refused to allow an armed U.S. Secret Service agent inside. The U.S. side refused to back down, stating, "No journalist group will enter without the agent." A tense argument lasting about 30 minutes took place between the sides. Eventually, a compromise was reached: another agent escorted the journalists, and the armed agent stayed outside.
A new confrontation occurred when leaving the Blue Temple. Chinese security personnel did not want to let U.S. journalists get close to the presidential motorcade. This caused shouting and pushing. A White House staff member pushed the group forward, saying, "We are leaving!" The Chinese side physically tried to block them. One U.S. official later described the situation as a "complete embarrassing chaos."
During the meeting, Trump took a completely unexpected step by bringing nearly 30 U.S. businessmen into the hall. Elon Musk, Tim Cook, Jensen Huang, and other leaders of large companies were introduced separately and gave brief speeches. This part was unplanned, and the Chinese side initially appeared clearly confused. The meeting was extended, and the entire schedule was disrupted. Xi Jinping diplomatically tried to ease the situation by saying, "It was a good idea."
American journalists faced serious restrictions during the events. It is reported that they were not given water, had their personal water bottles taken away, were kept for a long time under hot weather, and were restricted from going to the restroom. Some journalists said they were kept in separate rooms and that their movements were strictly monitored.
While official statements emphasized economic cooperation, the main tense issue was Taiwan. Xi Jinping called Taiwan "the most important issue" and reminded the U.S. side of the "risk of confrontation." The U.S. tried to avoid open escalation, but recent statements from Washington contained indirect warnings to China.
No major agreement was reached at the meeting.
The summit did not produce a large or historic understanding. Only minor economic steps were discussed:
- U.S. soybean exports
- "Boeing" orders
- new trade councils
- steps aimed at preventing further deterioration of relations
Another fruitless meeting. That is, war with Iran is inevitable.
