Proper nutrition as you age It prolongs life

As age increases, changing eating habits can help a person live longer and healthier. Experts say that especially after middle age, controlling the calorie content of the diet plays an important role in maintaining health.

Medianews.az reports, citing Foodinfo.az, that doctor-dietitian and psychotherapist Mikhail Ginzburg stated that one of the main conditions for longevity is moderation in nutrition.

According to him, high-calorie foods, especially fatty and sugary products, negatively affect the body and can accelerate the aging process. Such foods cause sharp fluctuations in blood sugar, which leads to increased appetite and overeating. The specialist recommends limiting the consumption of products with a high glycemic index – sweets, white bread, confectionery products, as well as rice and potatoes.

The doctor added that having vegetables and low-fat protein sources with every meal helps both reduce calories and maintain a feeling of fullness for a longer time. In addition, including legumes in the diet can be a healthier alternative to products like potatoes. In his opinion, reducing portion sizes, in some cases decreasing the number of meals, and having dinner earlier are also important steps supporting a healthy lifestyle.
