Heavy snowfall in Japan continues to claim lives: The number of deaths increased

Severe snowfall and icy weather conditions that began to take effect in Japan from January 20 have caused serious consequences.

BAKU.WS reports that according to the latest data from Japan's Fire and Disaster Management Agency (FDMA), the number of deaths across the country has risen to 27, with 290 people injured.

According to the information, the highest number of casualties, 12 people, was recorded in Niigata Prefecture. In Akita Prefecture, 6, in Hokkaido 3, and in Aomori 2 people lost their lives. In Iwate, Yamagata, Nagano, and Shimane Prefectures, it was reported that one person died in each.

As a result of accidents caused by heavy snowfall and icy conditions, 101 people were seriously injured and 189 sustained minor injuries. The severe weather conditions created serious problems in air, automobile, and railway transportation in many regions of the country.

It should be noted that initial reports released on January 23 stated the number of deaths as 4 and injured people as 26. The worsening weather in recent days has led to an increase in casualties.
