The snap election held on February 8 for the lower house of the Japanese parliament resulted in a large advantage for the ruling coalition.
Medianews.az reports that according to preliminary results, Prime Minister Sanae Takai's Liberal Democratic Party wins 316 seats in the 465-member House of Representatives, and its coalition partner, the Innovation Party, wins 36 seats.
Sanae Takai, born in 1961, has been prime minister since October 21, 2025. Since the ruling coalition was in the minority in both houses of parliament, the lower house was dissolved on January 23.
In the 248-member upper house – the House of Councillors – the government's side has 120 seats.
