Japan intends to significantly increase the number of women in the military by the mid-2030s.
Medianews.az, citing Oxu.Az, reports that the country’s Ministry of Defense has released this information.
According to the information, the reason for this is the difficulties in recruiting new soldiers.
It is noted that about 10 percent of the approximately 250,000 vacant positions have not been filled.
This year, the new target is to increase the share of female military personnel in Japan's Self-Defense Forces to 13% by March 2036 (currently this figure is 9%).
The ministry promised to improve service conditions for women. In particular, it plans to equip ships with separate toilets, baths, and living quarters.
