The quality of the internet at home often depends not on the provider, but on the placement of the equipment.
Even if the provider offers a normal speed, Wi-Fi can work unstably due to some objects around the router.
What hinders Wi-Fi performance?
Devices operating in the 2.4 GHz range can interfere with the signal. Such devices include microwave ovens, some surveillance cameras, and baby monitors. If possible, it is recommended to switch them to other frequencies or place them away from the router.
Walls also play an important role. Thick concrete or brick partitions significantly weaken signal propagation. In multi-room apartments, repeaters or mesh systems are usually used to extend the signal.
Metal surfaces are a separate problem. They do not transmit radio waves but reflect them. Therefore, placing the router near mirrors or metal-coated energy-saving windows is not appropriate.
An unexpected "enemy" for Wi-Fi is water. Large aquariums, water tanks, or boilers can absorb signals and create "dead zones."
Neighboring Wi-Fi networks also affect the network's performance. When several routers operate on the same channel, frequencies become loaded and speed decreases. In this case, automatic switching to a less loaded channel or using the 5 or 6 GHz range can help.
Another factor is Bluetooth devices. Many speakers, headphones, or wireless mice create additional "noise" in the same frequency range. If possible, it is recommended to turn off some of these devices or use them via cable.
Do not forget about the television either. Its metal parts and wireless modules partly absorb the signal, especially if the router is located next to or behind the TV. It is best to place the router a few meters away from the television. (lent.az)
