Washington proceeds from the "Monroe Doctrine" - Political scientist

“The military operation carried out by Washington in Venezuela shows that the USA has not reconciled with the multilateral world.” Political analyst Elkhan Shahinoglu said this in an interview with Medianews.az.

He stated that Washington, departing from the “Monroe Doctrine” (according to the doctrine adopted by US President James Monroe in 1823, North and South America were considered within the vital interests of the USA and European countries should not interfere in the affairs of these continents), decided to tame Venezuela:

“Washington, by the same principle, in 1973 overthrew the leftist President Salvador Allende in Chile through local military forces. Like Salvador Allende, Nicolas Maduro also challenged America; the fates of both were similar. Two types of reactions have been given to the military operation carried out by the USA in Venezuela and the arrest of Maduro. Those saying ‘We condemn what is happening’ are countries concerned about the US military operation. Those saying ‘We are closely following events’ are US allies and those wary of Washington. In any case, no country, including Russia and China, will confront Donald Trump because of Venezuela and its now former leader Maduro.

In his statement yesterday, Trump threatened the Iranian regime with these words:

“If Iran opens fire violently on peaceful protesters and kills them, which is their custom, the USA will come to help the protesters. We are fully ready to go there.” The events in Venezuela show that Trump is trying to act on what he said. However, any US interference in Iran will work against those who want change in that country and, on the contrary, in favor of conservatives; the latter will divert attention from solving internal issues and call the society to unite against a common enemy.”
