Individuals who wish to obtain a driver's license in Azerbaijan must fulfill certain conditions. For this, the candidate must be at least 18 years old, attend a driving course, successfully pass theoretical and practical exams, and also present a medical certificate confirming their health status.
Medianews.az reports that according to the current rules, driving rights are granted to all citizens who meet these requirements.
One of the issues under discussion is the appropriateness of issuing driver's licenses indefinitely. According to transport expert Eldəniz Cəfərov, the main factor determining a driver's ability to operate a vehicle is not age but health status.
The expert noted that individuals over 70 years old must undergo medical examinations at certain intervals and present a certificate confirming their fitness to drive. Currently, this procedure is carried out once every two years.
Transportation expert Elməddin Muradlı, who commented on the issue, shares the same opinion.
He believes that the restriction of driving rights should be based not on age but on a person's physical, psychological, and medical condition. In his view, the driving rights of individuals who have good vision and overall health enabling them to drive should not be limited due to age.//Milli.Az
