A new scientific study shows that reducing sugary drinks can have a positive effect on the psychological health of adolescents in particular.
Medianews.az reports that scientists have conducted research regarding this.
According to the research results, adolescents who frequently consume carbonated drinks, sugar-added fruit juices, and energy drinks show more symptoms of anxiety. During the analysis of studies published between 2000 and 2025, a significant correlation between sugary drink consumption and anxiety levels was found in seven out of nine studies.
According to the information, young people who consume high amounts of sugary drinks have a 34 percent higher likelihood of being diagnosed with anxiety disorder. However, scientists note that a direct cause-and-effect relationship has not been proven, and adolescents experiencing anxiety may also have a greater tendency to consume sugary drinks.
Experts recommend that daily free sugar intake should not exceed 30 grams. It is noted that even one can of carbonated drink can exceed this limit. Scientists emphasize that choosing water, milk, or sugar-free drinks is more beneficial for both physical and psychological health.
