Dust in the office environment for respiratory health creates a risk

Employees who spend most of the day in a closed office environment face invisible health risks. Insufficient ventilation, dust-collecting carpet coverings, uncleaned air conditioners, and printer toners can pose a danger to the respiratory tract.

According to Medianews.az, Turkish expert Aygül Güzel stated that chronic lung patients are especially more sensitive to office dust.

According to her, individuals with dust allergies may experience eye burning, itching, runny nose, and throat irritation. Asthma patients may observe shortness of breath, wheezing, coughing, and a feeling of tightness in the chest. In chronic diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease of the lungs, symptoms may increase, inflammation may intensify, and the healing process may slow down.

The expert noted that if complaints increase at the office and decrease at home or during vacation, this indicates that the problem is specifically related to the work environment.

Recommendations for a healthy office

  • Offices should be ventilated regularly and effectively;
  • Use of dust-retaining carpets and coverings should be limited;
  • Furniture should be wiped with a damp cloth, not dry;
  • Air conditioner filters should be cleaned and replaced regularly;
  • Printers and copiers should be placed in a separate area from the workspace.

Experts say that these measures help reduce dust in the office environment and protect employees' respiratory health.
