The hair puffing up like "cotton wool" and spreading in all directions is a common problem for many women. This unpleasant appearance, especially common in curly and wavy hair, indicates damage to the cuticle, the protective layer of the hair.
Demokrat.az reports that specialist trichologists have explained the seven main mistakes that cause hair to puff up and the ways to solve this problem.
The main problem is the exposure of the tiny scales (cuticle) on the hair strands. In healthy hair, these scales stick closely together, retaining moisture inside. However, due to improper care, the scales open, the hair loses moisture, and it electrifies and puffs up.
One of the most common mistakes is the choice of shampoo. Shampoo should be selected according to the scalp type, not the length of the hair. Additionally, it is not allowed to use hot water when washing hair or to rub dry hair harshly with a towel. Roughly combing wet hair also leads to hair breakage and puffing.
Experts recommend definitely using conditioner after every wash. Because it is the conditioner that closes the scales opened by the shampoo and ensures the hair remains smooth. Moreover, it is necessary to avoid metal combs as much as possible and prefer wooden or silicone ones.
When using hair dryers and straighteners, it is important not to forget heat protection products, and also to protect hair from sun and frost. Chemical dyes and some "lamination" procedures also damage the hair structure from within, causing premature hair loss and dull appearance.
