According to a new study, approximately 30 percent of people have at least one "problematic" person around them, and these individuals can accelerate biological aging through stress.
Medianews.az reports that an article on this subject has been published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) of the USA.
The study investigated the effects of social interactions with people who make life difficult on health and aging.
More than 2,000 participants took part in the study. For the past 6 months, DNA changes were monitored through social connections and saliva samples. The results showed that each new problematic person increases the rate of aging by 1.5 percent.
The lead author of the study, Byonkyu Lee, an associate professor of sociology at New York University, stated that such relationships act as chronic stress factors and can significantly reduce quality of life.
