Unprecedented frost in New York

Due to heavy snow and record low temperatures in New York City, parts of the famous Hudson River have frozen, creating massive ice masses on the water's surface.

According to Milli.Az, over 11,000 flights have been canceled nationwide, and more than 13,000 flights have been delayed.

In New York, five homeless people stranded on the streets have died from freezing due to the harsh cold.

Due to severe winter conditions, approximately 920,000 people across the country, mainly in Tennessee and Mississippi, are without electricity.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul stated that the state is experiencing the longest and most severe winter in recent years. In areas near the Canadian border, temperatures have dropped to record lows of -37 and -45 degrees. Some regions report a felt temperature of -47 degrees. The governor described the situation as a "cruel and dangerous Arctic siege."

New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani said at a press conference that snow cover in the city is expected to reach 30 centimeters in height. For safety reasons, all schools will be closed tomorrow, and lessons will switch to an online format.

Ten temporary shelters and warming centers for the homeless have opened across the city. The mayor stated that no one seeking help there will be turned away.

The U.S. National Weather Service warns that currently 213 million people (the majority of the country's population) are in zones of dangerous ice and snow storms. The storm is expected to continue until tomorrow, followed by even harsher frosts. This means serious problems in infrastructure and transportation will continue for a few more days.
