When will the Media and Broadcasting Council be established? - EXPLANATION

The draft law envisaging the creation of a new institution in Azerbaijan - the Media and Broadcasting Council - will be brought up for discussion in the third reading in the Milli Majlis tomorrow. This was stated to Medianews.az by Zahid Oruc, Chairman of the Human Rights Committee of the Milli Majlis.

The draft prepared by the Human Rights Committee was adopted by the Milli Majlis in the first reading on June 19 and in the second reading on June 30.

The discussion concerns the proposed amendments to the "On Public Service" and "On Media" laws.

The draft proposes to establish the Media and Broadcasting Council as a unified body on the basis of the Media Development Agency and the Audiovisual Council.

The third reading is the final reading.

According to the procedure, the Milli Majlis must send the draft law approved in the final reading to the Head of State within two weeks.

Medianews.az asked the question "From what date can the creation of the Media and Broadcasting Council start and when can it be completed?" and in response, Z. Oruc noted that after passing the third reading, it is expected that the President will sign a decree approving the law, thereby initiating the implementation process: "But this stage is within the competence of the leadership."
