France national team forward Kylian Mbappe spoke about the top scorer race at the World Cup.
According to Medianews.az, the French footballer stated that the record broken by Argentina national team leader Lionel Messi is not in his focus.
"I am not thinking about being the top scorer. The main issue for me is the development and success of the French national team. I don't follow what Lionel Messi is doing, I only focus on myself and my team," Mbappe said.
It should be noted that Messi became the record holder by reaching 18 goals in World Cups with a double against Austria. Meanwhile, Mbappe scored twice in the match against Iraq, bringing his World Cup career tally to 16 goals.
Both Argentina and France national teams have secured their spot in the playoff stage of WC-2026 ahead of schedule.
