New details have emerged regarding the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro by U.S. special forces.
Modern.az reports that, according to information cited by CNN from sources familiar with the situation, Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were caught in their bedrooms late at night while they were asleep. It is reported that U.S. soldiers suddenly entered their home, and the couple did not offer any resistance.
According to the information, the operation was carried out by the U.S. Army's elite special forces unit called "Delta." Before the operation, the Central Intelligence Agency determined Maduro’s exact location. According to the information, President Donald Trump gave approval for Maduro’s capture several days prior.
Although U.S. soldiers were ready to conduct the operation during the Christmas days, the plan was postponed several times due to airstrikes against "Islamic State" targets in Nigeria and subsequently due to weather conditions.
It should be noted that the "Delta" forces are considered one of the most secretive and elite special forces units of the U.S. Army. This unit, located at the Fort Bragg base in North Carolina, consists of approximately 2,000 soldiers and specializes primarily in counterterrorism operations, hostage rescues, and high-risk covert missions.
